Ah, F1 - another example of what some people (men and women) might call a waste of time. Like so many of my friends (and my mother) tell me, it's just a bunch of cars going around and around. But the strategies, the sound of the engines, the sight of a driver on a purple lap - these are the things that I wake up at 2 in the morning here in LA to catch up on. Cricket has similar joys.

Good writing, BTW. You've got yourself a regular reader...

Ah an Indian cricket fan ! Apart from the name, you gave yourself away with the "escaping defeat or the pain of not being able to achieve victory"...What a compelling reason to watch the game. By the way, women have moved on. We're beyond the shopping/cookery shows. We watch real sports. Like F1...

You don't understand, the 30-35 hours (more than 40 if you choose to watch the pre-game, lunch-time and post-game shows) that you watch in a game that ends on the last day as a draw is pure heaven. The feeling of joy of escaping defeat or the pain of not being able to achieve victory - only a true fan can appreciate that. It's like women with their cooking/shopping shows...
